Ted Grove, Mary Kay Emery and Hugh Solaas, 1957 San Diego Youth Symphony. The Southwestern Jewish Press reported that Mary Kay was the piano-soloist in 'Music Hath Charms For Juveniles Too' in May of 1954 when she was 10. The San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory (SDYS) is the 6th oldest continuously operating youth symphony in the United States, and serves students from its home in Balboa Park. Skill levels range from beginner to pre-professional, with participating students ages 8 to 25.
