Star of India in Oakland Circa 1920, Prior to San Diego Bay
1920s photo of the Star of India at Barnes and Tibbitts Shipbuilding and Dry Dock in Oakland, CA. Launched as the Euterpe in 1863, and renamed in 1906, she carried fishermen, cannery workers, coal and supplies from Oakland to the Bering Sea from 1902-1923. She retired in 1926, was restored 1962-63 and is now a museum ship at the Maritime Museum of San Diego. She is the oldest ship still sailing and the oldest iron-hulled merchant ship still floating. The ship is a California Historical Landmark and a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
