Display of City Lakes, Home of the Famous Florida Bass, featuring Sutherland, El Capitan, Murray, Morena, Otay, San Vincente, Miramar and Barrett lakes. In 1959 City Lakes Superintendent Orville P. Ball put Florida bass into Upper Otay. The idea came during a fishing outing where Ball was joined by major league player Ray Boone, who wondered why largemouth bass he saw in Florida during his spring training grew so large. The Otay fish reproduced, were transplanted into other lakes and a successful industry began.
