Librarian Clara Breed
1966 photo of Librarian Clara Estelle Breed (1906-1994) a San Diego librarian for 42 years. She is remembered for the impact she had on children during World War II when Japanese were forced from their homes into camps. She protested, sent books, clothing and candy to children in the camps and handed out pre-addressed, stamped postcards as they were shepherded onto trains, saving over 250 letters from them. Her historic collections are now in the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.
