Interior of Consolidated National Bank at Fifth and C in 1887
Interior view of Consolidated National Bank at Fifth and C. The bank was created with the merger of the Bank of San Diego and Commercial Bank in 1883 and operated until it failed in 1893.
The photo was taken by Herve Friend, for Douglas Gunn's 1887 book 'Picturesque San Diego'. Gunn published annual reviews of the progress of the City in pamphlet form. For 1887's review, he documented the developments in illustrated form. He contracted with the American Photogravure Company and he and Mr. Friend captured photos for the book.
