1883 photo of the Star of India, then named Euterpe, at Port Charles in Dunedin, New Zealand. Named for Euterpe, the muse of music, she was built in 1863 in Ramsey, Isle of Man, and launched on November 14, 1863. In 1871 she began 25 years of carrying passengers and freight in the New Zealand emigrant trade. In 1901, Euterpe was sold to the Alaska Packers' Association of San Francisco, who changed her name in 1906 to the Star of India. Now ported at the Maritime Museum of San Diego, she is the oldest ship still sailing.
