Currently, Gonzalo serves as a District Representative in the Office of Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins. In this capacity, he manages a policy portfolio centering on Public Safety, Civil Rights, Homeland Security, Immigration, Border Affairs, Refugee, and Latinx issues. He also serves as the Senator's liaison to many of the 39th Senate District’s Accelerated and Deferred Areas, as well as the North Park and University Heights communities. Gonzalo proudly spends his days working towards a California for everyone, as he believes that the Government should serve all members of society—regardless of background, identity, or status.
