Jessica Dockstader is a PhD student focused on restorative justice and improving the mental health of law enforcement, a researcher working nationally on justice improvement projects, and a life-long San Diegan with a background and awareness of local context of the criminal justice system. She currently works for a national nonprofit where she supports projects focused on violence prevention, system improvement, and law enforcement safety and wellness.

She is also currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Leadership studies at the University of San Diego, where she is focusing specifically on the use of restorative justice interventions to improve police and community well-being. She completed her M.A. in Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego in 2019, where she worked with the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice to improve and evaluate relationships between law enforcement agencies in San Diego and community members with the assistance of religious leaders. She also served as a consultant to the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice and the nonprofit Measure and co-created the Big Data Policing Conference (BDCP) in San Diego in 2020.

Prior to obtaining her M.A. in 2019, she completed her BA in Human Development with an emphasis in Counseling Services from the California State University San Marcos. She also has a passion for and qualifications in mediation and restorative justice, and as such, completed Introductory Mediation Skills training and the Art of Inclusive Communication training from the National Conflict Resolution Center in 2018, and in 2024, obtained the Restorative Justice Facilitation and Leadership graduate certificate from the University of San Diego.
