Artwork done with Washi Chigiri-E, a traditional Japanese art. Chigiru means to tear and 'e' means image. Therefore, Chigiri-E is an image created through the act of tearing. Using this technique, the images are similar to a collage. What is unique about Chigiri-E is the use of washi's natural properties. The paper is stretched, twisted and torn with bare hands to form shapes. This was given by Sendai Washi Chigiri-E Circle to attendees at the 21st Japan-American Conference of Mayors and Chamber of Commerce.
