The puppet duo was part of Real Characters puppet troupe launched in 1990 by Jim Rust and Peter Oliver, which also included the Dufus Brothers and Rude and Crude, two surfer dudes who gave surf reports on San Diego TV station KUSI. Members of Rust and Oliver's troupe were created for television but were routinely filmed on location on the beach, at Del Mar Fair and elsewhere.
