Miniature shovel, 8 inches long, commemorating the groundbreaking ceremony for NextLevel Systems on January 21, 1997. General Instrument Corporation broke ground on a new $47 million office complex to house the company's NextLevel Satellite Data Networks Group. The ceremony took place at their 35-acre site in the Sorrento Mesa area. The first shovels full of dirt were lifted by a group of local business leaders and Mayor Golding. Donated by Ninteman Construction Co.
