Wooden 8 x 12-inch plaque from Japan's Escort Division 63 of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, which is home ported in Maizuru, Kyoto. Escort Division 63's ships are the Myoko and Shimakaze. The JMSDF has a large fleet and its main tasks are to maintain control of the nation's sea lanes and to patrol territorial waters. They periodically visit the Port of San Diego for training and exercises. This was presented to Mayor Golding by JMSDF Capt. Hirotaka Honda.
