On March 18, 2014, the United States Golf Association announced that Torrey Pines had been selected as the site of the 2021 U.S. Open Championship scheduled for June 17-20. Torrey Pines previously hosted the championship in 2008. Presented by USGA Vice President Daniel B. Burton at Torrey Pines Golf Course where Mayor Faulconer, representatives from the City Council, other San Diego officials and USGA senior leadership attended the announcement.
