Wooden box plaque, 10 x 12, presented to the City of San Diego in appreciation for its contribution as a Gold Patron for America's Finest City Week 1993, donated by the organizers of events scheduled for August 13 - 20, 1993. The annual festival began in 1972, when Republican Party officials decided at the last moment to move their national convention from San Diego to Miami. To help San Diego recover from the blow, the mayor proposed a week of activities for San Diegans to show the pride they felt for their city.
