Framed 25 x 30 certificate dated September 16, 1914, extending greetings to Captain Ashley Robertson, Commander of the USS San Diego (CA-6), and his crew from San Diego Mayor Charles O'Neall. The plate reads: 'To the Mayor and City Council of San Diego, With Best Wishes, I hope our welcome's as warm 72 years later. Rear Admiral Bruce R. Boland USN, Commander Naval Base San Diego, August 1986'. Originally named USS California, the ship's name was changed in 1914 to USS San Diego. The original was sunk in 1918, suspected to be by a U-Boat.
