2024 Election Information

November 5, 2024 Municipal General Election Information

Ballots will begin to be mailed to all registered voters on October 6, 2024. 

MAIL IT

You can complete your ballot in the comfort of your home and return it through the U.S. Postal Service. Your signature is required on your return envelope for your vote to count!

DROP IT

Starting Tuesday, October 8, you’ll have the additional option of dropping off your ballot at any official ballot drop box located around the county. Ballot Drop Box is available at the City of San Diego City Administration building in downtown San Diego at 202 C Street. 

VISIT

If you would rather vote in person, that option is available too. Avoid long lines by taking advantage of early in-person voting:

  • Starting Monday, October 7, early voting is available at the Registrar’s office (5600 Overland Avenue, San Diego, CA 92123), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Starting Saturday, October 26, select vote centers and the Registrar’s office will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through November 4.
  • Starting Saturday, November 2, over 200 vote centers and the Registrar’s office will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through November 4.
  • On the final day of voting, Tuesday, November 5, all vote centers, official ballot drop boxes, and the Registrar’s office will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
 

City of San Diego registered voters will vote for one candidate to the following offices:

  • Mayor
  • City Attorney
  • Council District 3
  • Council District 9

The following measures have been placed on the November 5th ballot:

Measure C - Amending the San Diego Charter by Amending Article VI, Section 66, Relating to Board of Education Elections

Measure D - Amending the San Diego Charter by Amending Article V, Section 41 and Adding New Section 41.3, Relating to the Ethics Commission

Measure E - Amending the San Diego Municipal Code by Adding Chapter 3, Article 2, Division 1, Sections 32.0101 Through 32.0120, Relating to a General Transactions and Use Tax

March 5, 2024 Election Results

To view the certified election results from the March 5, 2024 elections, please click here to view R-315447. The City Council declared the results at the April 8, 2024 meeting.

 

As a result of the Special Election to fill the vacancy for the Office of the District 4 City Councilmember, Councilmember Henry L. Foster took the Oath of Office for the term ending in December 2026 on April 8, 2024.

 

The March 5, 2024 Municipal Primary Election had three offices where only one candidate qualified for office and appeared on the ballot. Per San Diego Municipal Code §27.0108, if only one candidate has qualified for the ballot in the Primary Election, the sole qualified candidate receiving votes shall be deemed to be, and declared by Council to be, elected to that office. The following sole qualified candidates’ term of office will commence in December 2024:

 

Office of Council District 1: Joe LaCava

Office of Council District 5: Marni von Wilpert

Office of Council District 7: Raul Campillo
