Holiday Schedule for City Offices and Services

Christmas Day Holiday Observance on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024, and New Year's Day Holiday Observance on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025

Please note the following impacts on City offices and services:



Trash Collection

Curbside trash, recyclables, and organic waste will NOT BE collected on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, for customers served by the City's Environmental Services Department. Monday's normally scheduled collection will occur on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023, and Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.  Tuesday's normal collection will take place on Wednesday and so forth, with Saturday's collection on Sunday. The normal collection schedule will resume on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.

Applicable to residents serviced by the City of San Diego only. Residents not serviced by the City of San Diego or residents of other cities, should check with their waste hauler for holiday service schedules.

The Miramar Landfill, Greenery, Recycling Center and Mattress Collection Site will be CLOSED on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and Monday, Jan. 1, 2024. Container sales at 8353 Miramar Place will also be CLOSED. For regular hours and questions, call 858-694-7000.

NOT ENFORCED on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.

Library

All libraries will be CLOSED on Sunday, Dec. 24, and on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and will reopen at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

Libraries will also be CLOSED on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, and on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, and will reopen at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2.



Parks & Recreation

Golf courses will be OPEN until dusk. Holiday rates will apply.

All City reservoirs will be CLOSED on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.

Chollas Lake will be OPEN, weather permitting.

Mission Trails Regional Park will be OPEN.

Mission Trails Regional Park Visitors Center will be CLOSED on Monday, Dec. 25.

All skate parks and the Pacific Highlands Ranch Pump Track at 5977 Village Center Loop Rd. will be OPEN.

Public buildings in Balboa Park will be CLOSED on Sunday, Dec. 24, and Monday, Dec. 25, 2023. 

These public buildings will also be CLOSED on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, and Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, including:

  • Balboa Park Activity Center
  • Morley Field
  • Municipal Gym

Check with individual museums and other park attractions for their holiday schedules.

All City recreation centers and City pools will be CLOSED on Sunday, Dec. 24, and on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and will reopen on their typical schedule starting Tuesday, Dec. 25.

Recreation centers and pools will also be CLOSED on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, and on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, and will reopen on their typical schedule starting Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Tecolote Canyon Natural Park will be OPEN.

Tecolote Nature Center will be CLOSED on Sunday, Dec. 24, and on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and will reopen on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

The Nature Center will also be CLOSED on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, and on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, and will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Open Space, Permit Center and Maintenance Assessment District Offices will be CLOSED on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.



City Offices

All Administrative Offices will be CLOSED on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.

Development Services Department (DSD) will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023. Regular business hours will resume on Dec. 26.

In addition, phone assistance on the department line (619-446-5000) and the Building & Land Use Enforcement line (619-236-5500), in-person records and cashiers services and all virtual appointments will be UNAVAILABLE between Tuesday, Dec. 26 - Friday, Dec. 31, 2023.

DSD permitting services will be CLOSED on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

  • Online services will still be available, including scheduling inspections, making payments or requesting code enforcement investigations.
  • Check online permit processing timelines for intake, review and permit issuance.

The Personnel Department's Employment Information Center, Testing and Background/Fingerprinting offices will be CLOSED on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.

Your Safe Place - A Family Justice Center will be CLOSED on Monday, Dec. 25, Thursday, Dec. 28, and Friday Dec. 29, 2023. The Center will also be CLOSED on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024. 

Individuals needing help related to domestic violence should call the Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-888-385-4657. Anyone experiencing immediate danger or a medical emergency should call 9-1-1.

Public Safety

Police and Fire emergency crews will not be impacted.

Station 38 (Citywide emergency dispatch center) will be on duty.
