Ocean Beach Library Expansion
Project Background
The Ocean Beach Library building, located at 4801 Santa Monica Avenue, was built in 1928 and was expanded in 1962 to its current size of 5,085 square feet. Another renovation in 2012 provided new carpeting and a new roof. In 1993, the two large urns at the facility were installed to replace urns that were previously damaged. These urns contain time capsules with objects from across the city. These time capsules will be opened in 2043.
Project Description
The Ocean Beach Library Expansion project will include the remodeling of the existing facility, demolition of the two-story adjacent building and construction of a new 4,300 square foot library extension. The new extension will designate space for an expanded book collection area, a community meeting room with a kitchenette, study rooms, office space, a teen area, storage rooms, new restrooms and a large meeting space to support gatherings of up to 100 attendees that opens to an outdoor patio area.
