The boil water notice that was issued for the Encanto area on Thursday, June 10, was lifted today (June 12) following the results of water tests that concluded no contamination was present. 

It is no longer necessary for customers in the impacted areas of Encanto, Emerald Hills, Jamacha and Broadway Heights to boil their tap water for consumption or to use bottled water.  

The boil water notice was issued as a precaution following a water main that was broken by a contractor while doing construction work. The City of San Diego’s Public Utilities Department conducted water quality tests to determine if any contamination occurred while the water main was shut down. Following testing and monitoring, no contamination was found. 

The City, in conjunction with the State Water Resources Control Board and the County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health, determined that, through abatement of the health hazard and comprehensive testing of the water, the water is safe to drink. 

The Public Utilities Department conducts regular water sampling and quality testing throughout the distribution system to ensure the water that is delivered to homes and businesses is safe.
