Southcrest

Southcrest is part of the Southeastern San Diego and neighbors National City. Southcrest is bordered by Mountain View on the north and east, Interstate 5 and the neighborhoods of Barrio Logan and Logan Heights on the west, and Shelltown on the south. Major thoroughfares include National Avenue and 40th Street.

Southcrest was first developed with single-family homes in the 1950s and 1960s. The community is experiencing an influx of revitalization, with hundreds of affordable homes being built and new parks being developed where vacant lots used to be. The 252 Corridor Park is an open space park which includes Chollas Creek. Currently, the Chollas Creek Enhancement Program is working to maintain this natural habitat as beautiful, open space.

San Diego's Southcrest Trails Park is located between the Southcrest and Shelltown neighborhoods within the Chollas Creek floodplain, part of the smallest watershed in San Diego and containing the highest population density. The Park itself is located south of Boston Avenue and west of South 38th Street. The close-knit community also boasts of its yearly block parties, which create neighborhood unity and support.

This community was originally named Shell Town.
