About Arts and Culture
The City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture serves in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and City Council on promoting, encouraging and increasing support for the region's artistic and cultural assets, integrating arts and culture into community life and showcasing San Diego as an international tourist destination.
The Commission is composed of 15 volunteers appointed by the Mayor and is supported by a staff of professional arts administrators. More information about the duties and functions of the Commission and the Commission staff is set forth in the San Diego Municipal Code: Commission for Arts and Culture (PDF) and the Commission for Arts and Culture - Rules and Regulations
The Commission for Arts and Culture is supported in part by the California Arts Council (CAC). The Commission has been officially designated by the City of San Diego as a California Arts Council State/Local Partner since the early 1980s.
